The medal, which is about ~37.5 mm, depicts a Capitol like building on the obverse with a flag high above the central dome on the obverse. There is a banner in exergue below the building which reads "LENGTH 421 FT; WIDTH 351 FT; AREA 3.3 ACRES". The obverse has the words "U.S. GOVt. BUILDING" above the building. The reverse has the legend "WORLD'S COLUMBIA EXPOSITION CHICAGO 1893" in 5 lines in the center surrounded by the legend "TREASURY DEPARTMENT UNITED STATES MINT EXHIBIT" along the edge. This is the official medal from the Columbian Exposition held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Columbus and to tell the story of the world’s progress for the past four centuries. The medal was engraved by George T. Morgan as evidenced by the M to the eft at the bottom of the building on the obverse. The medal has a plain edge with no markings. The medal, which is in extremely fine or much better state, is ~1.5' in dimeter and weighs about 24.4 grams. A great medal to add to your collection. These medals were struck at the exhibit. Reference: Listed in the So-Called Dollar book as HK-154. Marks: Has the letter "M" for Morgan in raised lettering below the building at the right corner on the obverse. Condition: The medal is in extremely fine or much better state with a nice patina and a few spots of dirt or soiling embedded into the legends. The medal shows even light ware commensurate with its circulated state. It has a few bag marks and some minor scratches in the fields. The edge has a few minor and very shallow dings. It is beautiful and problem free with nice eye appeal. It would make a nice addition to your collection.
