Known to have been published in 1893. In an antique oak wood frame. Lettering in lower margin, with name of artist and etcher, who have both signed in pencil alongside the other's name. Contemporary label on rear of frame of the printseller 'E. E. Leggatt'. Size: frame - approx. 50.5cm x 42.5cm; print (visible area, sheet is larger) - approx. 32cm x 25.5cm. N.B. This engraving is being sold in a frame without glass, so that shipping can be offered to a wider variety of destinations. It can be collected from our Berkshire offices with glass in situ if preferred, but cannot be shipped with glass.Very Good condition. A few spots of foxing to the visible border of the etching. Some general wear to the edges and rear of the frame. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, or view gallery images.A rare etching, signed in pencil by both painter Sir John Everett Millais and etcher Charles Albert Waltner, depicting a Yeoman of the Guard, or Beefeater. ⁂ Said to be a portrait of John Charles Montague, who had been a corporal in the 16th Lancers and served for more than twenty years in India. When he retired in 1847 he was appointed a Yeoman of the Guard. Millais shows him the uniform of the yeomen, usually known as ‘Beefeaters’.
