Description: STUDY OF A NYMPH - FROM A WORKING DRAWING FOR "HYLAS AND THE NYMPHS" BY J.W. WATERHOUSE PHOTO- LITHOGRAPH PUBLISHED IN 1897 AS A SUPPLEMENT TO "THE STUDIO" MAGAZINE, VOLUME 10 ***I'm not making any extravagant claims for it, as it is a photo-mechanical reproduction - it's just a nice image to have.*** Made from a preparatory charcoal drawing for the painting by J.W.Waterhouse. Waterhouse had a good relationship with "The Studio", and would have provided the original drawing for the publication's lithographers to work their magic. Unsigned - but the attribution is solid. See inscription at the bottom. The lithographer's monogram is in the bottom left corner. Main image measures 8 x 6 inches. Total sheet measures 8 x 11 inches. Condition/Technical : Very good. "The Studio" Magazine was a lavishly-produced and pre-eminent art journal. A showcase for artists to have their works on paper featured. It took lithography to an entirely new level of excellence. In its early years the editors commissioned graphic works from leading artists, but as the popularity of the journal increased, artists were keen to offer their works for inclusion. in such a superb showcase publication. Continental artists, and "rising stars" from UK were also well represented. We can count such luminaries as Beardsley, Whistler, Waterhouse, Khnopff, LePere, Nicholson etc. etc. just to name a few amongst the contributors. The print run was about 3,000.
