Description: 18th Century Chelsea Bird Plate C. 1755; Bright Colors; Pheasant, Buzzard and another. It's hard to believe that this plate predates the U.S.A; I would trade it in a heartbeat for one hour with Thomas Jefferson; LOL. This plate features the homeliest pheasant ever to reach maturity. We all had one in the family; let's be honest. Anyway, it's been a popular look for a long while ( they beautified the poor thing ) and is now being copied by Mottahedeh and Caspari. The layout of the design is really balanced. This plate has lost a good bit of the greenery. It shows a lot of utensil use and I can actually feel the painting, so there is very little glaze over the painting. I love the scalloped border. The gilding on the border is pretty much worn off. There is a tiny chip on the bottom rim. It measures 8.25". Great piece!! I will pay for full insurance and shipping. Enjoy !!!
