Description: Details the defenses of Bergen Op Zoom & the French attack as well as the territory to the north.Supposedly drawn "By an Engineer 1747." Roughly 8 x 10 1/2". One of the last major actions of the War of Austrian Succession. A French army laid siege from July to September 1747 before capturing the city which was a strategic Dutch border fortress on the border of Brabant & Zeeland. Its loss opened the door for an invasion of the Netherlands. Together with the loss at Lauffeld, the British were forced to reenter peace negotiations leading to a treaty in 1748 ending the war.
