Description: Here is the 1902 class photo from Rocky Hill one room schoolhouse in East Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. On the back is a list of the names of the children in the photo. I did some research on some of the names and found: Esrey and Bessie Berkenhizer were the son and daughter of Hughy & Christiann, Esrey, was born July of 1893 and Bessie in either 1895 or 1897, in the 1900 census they lived in East Goshen. Helen and Anna Cloud were the daughters of G. Pierson & Sue Cloud. Anna Cloud was born December, 1890 and Helen was born September 1893. Mildred and Harry Hartshorne were the children of Thomas and Lizzie, Mildred was born May 1895 and Harry May 1892. Alice Pinkerton was the daughter of William & Mahala Pinkerton and she was born September 1891. Lulu Farra was born May 1889 and was the daughter of Wilmer and Sallie Farra. Horace & Robert Harper were the children of Lewis & Elizabeth Harper, Horace was born September 1895 and Robert March 1892. Warren Lear was born November 1888 and was the son of Caleb & Lillie, they also had a son listed in the census as C. Byer born November 1894, not sure if he could be the Byron Lear in the photo. Charles and Fred Clemson were the sons of Elmer & Anna Clemson was born January 1894 and Charles was born March 1892, he later became Chief of Police of Willstown Township. Pauline and Alice Dutt were the daughters of Christian & Lizzie Dutt, Pauline was born May 1893 and Alice in September of 1890. Earl Dutt was born July 1896 and was the son of Frank and Elsie Dutt. Joseph and Harry Baldwin were the children of Harry (Henry) and Anna Mary Baldwin, Joseph was born 1891 in January and Harry, whose name was Henry was born June 1893. Interesting note is that Henry Baldwin played 3rd base for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1927 before that he led the Pacific Coast League in Hitting while playing two years for Seattle. After the Phillies he went on to be manager for the Portland, Maine team in the Class A New England League. After his career he came back to Chester Co. and raised prized hunting and show horses. All these children lived in East Goshen Twp. in the 1900 census. There are many more names listed on the back of the photo. Rocky Hill is an historic section of East Goshen Township in Chester County, PA. I wonder if the school house is still standing, perhaps converted into a house by now like other one room schoolhouses. The photo is faded and has marks on it. The cardboard it is mounted on has missing pieces of the edges and corners. There was a tear at the top of the cardboard that I stabilized with archival tape. Still a neat old photo despite all it's flaws. Postage will be 4.70 to the U. S. IF OUTSIDE THE U. S., PLEASE USE THE POSTAL CALCULATOR TO DETERMINE THE COST OF POSTAGE. If you like old photographs and ephemera, please check out my EBay store and the other old photos I have listed. Many different subjects, time periods and places! I mail all my old photos in padded envelopes with cardboard to keep them from being bent. Thank you!
