This is a rare opporutnity to acquire an original photogravure from this $100,000 volume set. This is an original large photogravure plate from 'The North American Indian. This potogravure used the original photo and was transferred to an etching plate, then hand inked and pressed into vellum paper. Giving it an etching look rather than a photo look. Originally, 500 sets of the 20 volumes were proposed, but only about half or 227 actual sets were produced. Original photogravure were produced in Boston by John Andrew & Son. These publications document indigenous American Indian life in photography and involved a handful of individuals. Edward Sheriff Curtis published The North American Indian between 1907 and 1930.
