Rarely offered example of an M101-2 Sporting News supplement featuring legendary Cleveland Naps Hall of Famer Addie Joss, who is the only player in the Hall of Fame which did not play the required 10 years. This is one of almost two dozen keys from the M101-2 series recently uncovered, which were preserved for more than 50 years in a binder after being passed down through the original owner's family. This sepia-tone premium set was issued with the Sporting News between the years 1909 and 1913. Each premium was issued on only a single day (August 19, 1909, in this case) and is dated in the upper right or left. Joss would pass away less than 2 years later at the age of 31, right in the middle of his prime. Due to his early passing, there are very few Joss card related collectibles compared to the other great players form his era. Their method of issue and the thin paper stock on which they are printed make these unusual and striking premiums particularly susceptible to damage, with the offered example possessing exceptional eye appeal despite the assigned grade, with strong corners and intact edges. This example has a flawless image of Joss pitching, which is downgraded largely due to a tiny tear along the left edge. This is a visually appealing example that represents a tremendous opportunity to acquire a rare card-related Joss supplement dating from his playing days.
