Description: Presented is a fabulous English sterling silver and faux tortoiseshell cigar box. The box dates to 1910. The box is made from sterling silver, with a wood lined interior and a faux tortoiseshell lid. The faux tortoiseshell is a beautiful rich dark brown, attractively translucent when the lid is open and light passes through. Set into the exterior of the lid is the word 'Cigars' in silver script. The underside of the box is leather over wood. The box is in good overall condition. There is an old glue repair on the inside of the lid at the bottom righthand corner (upper righthand, when the lid is closed). This repair is barely visible when the lid is closed, and the lid still seems quite sturdy. The hinges of the lid are in good shape and the lid closes well. The silver inlay on the lid is missing the very tail end of the flourish that terminates the 's' in 'Cigars.' There are no monograms, no monogram removals, and no other repairs. The box is hallmarked on the side of the lid as well as the side of the body. The lid has the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter P for 1910, and a maker's mark which is unfortunately too worn to read. The bottom half of the box has the lion passant, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter P, and the remnants of a maker's mark. The box has approximate dimensions of 7 1/2 by 5 by 1 1/2 inches, LxWxH. The box weighs 620 grams or 21.9 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
