It was designed by Victor David Brenner who was the sculptor of the famous Lincoln Cent. Piece is signed VDB by the artist. It sports its original pin and ribbon. Medal displays crisp detail and superb color. What a beauty this rare medal is!Avigdor David Brenner was born in 1871 in what is now known as the country of Lithuania. He was a highly regarded sculptor, engraver and medallist. Brenner emigrated to the United States. In 1907 he was commissioned by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt to design a coin that would become the famous Lincoln Wheat Cent. The first examples of this popular coin were minted in 1909. Brenner died in 1924 at the age of 52. Please see picture number seven to view a photograph of him. This bronze piece is in Choice Extra Fine condition, or very nearly so. Medal is very attractive with great detail, color and heft. It displays above average surfaces and pleasing luster. The pin section functions perfectly. Ribbon shows vibrant color. Original toning is noted. This is a great looking medal! The rectangular medal section measures approximately 26mm by 37mm excluding the bronze loop.
