Lubbock made significant contributions in archaeology, ethnography, and several branches of biology. Loosely inserted is a handwritten letter from Lubbock, dated 1901 and bearing his London address. Addressed to a Professor S. Thompson, Lubbock asks 'Will you let me introduce to you an old friend of mine, Mr. F. F. Seddendale. He is anxious for some information, which [...] you will kindly give him. If so I shall be much obliged'.Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece to each volume, and two further plates. The folding genealogical table to volume I is supplied in facsimile. Collated, complete. While each volume has the label of 'Grants Select Library', Edinburgh, to the front board, there are no further ex-library identification marks internally. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. Library labels to front boards, torn to volume I. Bumping to spine heads and tails. Front joints of each volume starting but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages xiii, xiv and the folding genealogical table of vol I are supplied in facsimile and tipped in. Spotting to title page and frontispiece of vol I, pages otherwise clean and bright.
