Trombly measures 4 by 6.5 inches and is 96 pages with paper covers. Published in 1915 by the Essex Publishing Co., Essex Jct., Vermont. Printed on the first page is, "A Reprint of the French Dialect Stories From the Papers of The Burlington Suburban List." The Suburban Line was a Burlington newspaper printed from 1938 - 1944. Written in French-Canadian vernacular, the book is a collection of short stories that follow the adventures of Battiste, a French-Canadian farmer living on the remote island of Isle La Motte in Lake Champlain. The stories are set in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and they offer a glimpse into the daily life of a rural community in Vermont. Through Battiste's eyes, the reader experiences the joys and challenges of farming, hunting, and fishing in a harsh and unforgiving environment. However, the book is not just a simple portrayal of rural life. It also explores the complex social and cultural dynamics of the time, including the tensions between French-Canadian and Anglo-American communities, and the struggles of immigrants to adapt to a new way of life. Despite the challenges he faces, Batiste is a resilient and resourceful character who always manages to find a way to overcome his ""trubbles." His stories are humorous, heartwarming, and sometimes tragic, but they always offer a glimpse into a bygone era that is both nostalgic and fascinating. Overall, it is a charming and engaging book that offers a unique perspective on rural life in Vermont at the turn of the century. All items guaranteed vintage and authentic. See my other auctions for lots of other fun old stuff! CONDITION: Center pages 39-58 have come loose, but are all here. Also, the last page is separated and paper clipped to the previous page. The covers have wear and some soiling. Still a good, serviceable example. US SHIPPING OPTIONS: Shipping in the US via First Class in a manila envelope - $2.00. Via Ground Advantage with rigid reinforcers, tracking and insurance - $5.00. Your choice. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Shipping via USPS International Package - $20.00. NOTICE!! Any international package valued $100 or more will require Priority Mail insured, which will be expensive - around $65.00. ALSO - I use Ebay shipping labels. It's the only way I can prove to Ebay that I shipped a package to the proper address if ever there's a dispute. Unfortunately, those labels will always have customs information - including the actual price of the merchandise - clearly printed on them. I realize that customs fees are a concern in the UK and other countries, but you'll just have to figure that into your cost when placing bids. TO ALL BUYERS: If there's a problem, contact me.
