Алексей Николаевич Куропаткин (1848 - 1925) - русский военный и государственный деятель, генерал от инфантерии (6 декабря 1900), генерал-адъютант (1902), военный министр (1 января 1898 - 7 февраля 1904), член Государственного совета. В Русско-японскую войну последовательно занимал должности командующего Маньчжурской армией (7 февраля - 13 октября 1904), главнокомандующего всеми сухопутными и морскими вооружёнными силами, действующими против Японии (13 октября 1904 - 3 марта 1905), командующего 1-й Маньчжурской армией (8 марта 1905 — 3 февраля 1906). В период Первой мировой войны получил назначение на пост командующего 5-й армией Северного фронта, а затем и главнокомандующего Северным фронтом, занимавшим фронт вдоль Западной Двины и защищавшим путь к Петрограду. В 1916 году в должности Туркестанского генерал-губернатора жестоко подавил выступления местного населения. Alexei Nikolaevich Kuropatkin (1848 - 1925) - Russian military and statesman, infantry general (December 6, 1900), adjutant general (1902), military minister (January 1, 1898 - February 7, 1904), member of the State Council. During the Russo-Japanese War, he successively held the positions of commander of the Manchurian army (February 7 - October 13, 1904), commander in chief of all land and naval forces operating against Japan (October 13, 1904 - March 3, 1905), commander of the 1st Manchurian army (March 8 1905 - February 3, 1906). During the First World War, he was appointed to the post of commander of the 5th Army of the Northern Front, and then commander in chief of the Northern Front, which occupied the front along the Western Dvina and defended the path to Petrograd.
