Founded by brothers Mikhail and Sergei Sabashnikov, a famous Siberian merchant family. In 1917, the publishing house was not nationalized and continued to publish scientific and memoir books until October 1930, when it was transformed into the “cooperative artel” “North” (it operated until 1934). In the Soviet period, the publishing house published the Lomonosov Library, which published 6 books on biology from 1919 to 1923. The series of books "Records of the Past" was very popular, in which there were "Stories about Pushkin, recorded from the words of friends" by PI Bartenev (1925), "Diaries" by V. Ya. Bryusov (1927), etc. All publications of the Sabashnikovs were distinguished by their high printing and philological culture. During the entire existence of the publishing house, more than 600 books have been published.
