Stuart Another Stuart? --- Considerable discussion has been aroused among art critics over this painting which shows George Washington with his close friend LaFayette in the background, as to the possibilities of its being the work of Guilbert C. Stuart. The picture which was supposed to have been painted for Lafayette is now in the possession of W.D. Bristol of Lisbon, Ohio. It was purchased from a French family in 1840 and for some time was hung in the Bristol home in Fredonia. There are many Stuart characteristics in the picture and art critics are waiting to see the results of the cleaning process before passing final judgement. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
