He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. Four significant regions of fading to the perimeters of the front board. Fraying to cloth of back strip head and tail, with fading to back strip. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to half title, with pages otherwise clean and bright, though a touch age toned to perimeters.
