Description: From a recent Maine country auction: 1924 Heddon Baby Vamp lure 1920 Down-leaping Bass Box The two items are a century old and they've seen lots of good days, Maine fishing. The Heddon & Sons company was founded in 1902, making innovative and colorful fishing lures in Dowagiac, Michigan. In 1924, the Heddon Baby Vamp Minnow was made in the style of the earlier, 1920 Heddon Vamp. The Baby Vamp was also made of wood with glass eyes, but being smaller, it has one less trailing treble hook, secured with L-rig hardware. Its pattern is the "Pike Scale," and its diving lip is signed "Heddon's Dowagiac." Measures about 3 1/2″, and weighs about 1/2 oz. This Heddon classic lure attracts Pike, Wall Eye, Bass and Lake Trout. The soiled, worn, and tattered box has all the characteristics of a 1920 box, but was presented as original to this 1924 lure. It looks like it's been reinforced with some cardboard pieces, glued into the top on the inside. All the pieces are there for this to be repaired. The red border, down-leaping bass, folded ends box has text that includes "...Stamped on the Metal" on its sides, and "Heddon’s Dowagiac Game Fish Minnow," on the top -- copy which was used from 1915 to 1920. The side also has "is’nt" with the apostrophe in the wrong place, and this was on boxes from 1920 to 1924.
