Black & White Size . . . 4 3/4 ” x 4 ” This is an original vintage 1926 halftone print of the Original Cape Henry Lighthouse in Virginia. Background: The Cape Henry Lighthouse has long been important for the large amount of ocean-going shipping traffic for the harbors, its rivers, and shipping headed to ports on the Chesapeake Bay. This original lighthouse was the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. government, dating from 1792. It was also the first federal construction project under the Constitution, for an original contract amount of $15,200 (an additional $2,500 was required to finish the lighthouse). A second lighthouse was built and completed in 1881 a short distance away after concern arose about the stability of the first. Condition: This 97 year old print is in excellent condition – no aging, no tears. It has printing on the reverse side. Look at my feedback and bid with confidence! ~ I combine shipping ~ Please note: Many of my prints/plates are from vintage books and the margins may not be perfectly symmetrical and there may be printing or images on the reverse side.
