Description: New Page 1 New Page 1 New Page 1 New Page 7 DREAMTROPHY We are always selling key date and quality rare coins and currency. We bring quality rare us currency and coins to serious collectors and investors for less money. Description 1929 $100 STAR FRBN-FR#1890-J*-KANSAS CITY-LOW S#-RARE-PMG 30 The Federal Reserve Bank Note Stars have always held a very special attraction to collectors and the less interested public. Whether you were prone to tearing off the corners of these notes to ward off the bad luck of these denominations in superstitious years passed, or lured to the rarity and challenging pursuit of collecting this series in of error Notes, almost everyone wants to tuck them in their “collection”. In an effort to practice full disclosure in this writing I should mention that I am a cataloger for Smythe. It seems humanly impossible for one to be objective when discussing most any subject as we all base our judgments on personal experiences. Auction prices realized certainly have veracity in determining the value of Banknotes, but only if one views the material for sale. A conservatively graded note can skew the numbers higher as the floor bidders who had the opportunity to view the notes may pay double the expected price. The reverse is true for a note described as Gem but which is actually a re-embossed or pressed note or both. That stated I will keep my personal grading opinions to myself and list the grades as described. Prices realized do not include the identity of the auction company. The approximate date is listed in parenthesis after the price realized. I do not wish to cause regret for most everyone’s lack of foresight in purchasing this popular series sooner. Prices of five plus years ago have little bearing on today’s market if there have been significant offerings since. I will explore the collecting of this popular Large Size Star Note in different denomination and the general characteristics starting with the series, Although rare, this first series is neither plentiful in higher grade circulated or uncirculated grades. This is one of the very few 1929 $100 Star (Kansas City=FR#1890-J*) that has never been pressed, cleaner or doctored in any way as so many of them have been in the past. I have owned 3 of these ones and this is only the 3rd or 4th time that I have had the opportunity to acquire one NONE DOCTORED designation. What does that mean? Well let me explain. It was common practice back in the 1899's through the 1970's for dealers, at the request of collectors to wash, clean and press these notes to give them eye appeal. The US government even promoted this practice to help keep the US currency in circulation longer and thus save money during the depression of the 1930’s. Sort of like it was a common practice for coin dealers to "dip" coins to remove the nasty colorful toning from older Morgan dollars. Now days we all know that coins are worth 2 to 3 time more if it has the original toning. The same thing applies to US notes. Is highly desirable and in demand to locate any (Kansas City=FR#1890-J*) that have the originality, in other words never cleaned or pressed. There are very few around and once you do locate them they are generally cost prohibitive. Keep in mind, once you do go to sell you collection, the notes with NONE DOCTORED designation will garner the most attention and money and will be the first notes that sell. O.K. enough of the history lesson, let’s talk about this beauty. As you look at the large scans you will NOT find any rips, tears, missing pieces or bank marks. This very note is one of my all time favorite Federal Reserve Bank Note Stars. For those of you who are in the know, there are very few of these known and most of them are in Lower condition. "Every collector creates a mental checklist of fantasy items--trophies so rare that despite the financial success of the individual, obtaining one carries far greater value than the money spent to acquire it. The realization of the fantasy dwarfs the cost of ownership. Among those who aspire to possess the finest in United States paper money, this is such an item" A museum note, if indeed acquired by a museum, will forever be out of private hands. We are blown away and humbled by the honor bestowed upon us when we acquired this treasure. These series have inspired many collectors to further pursue the hobby, and this stunning example by all means fits that bill. Even in the current economic crisis, the currency market is growing each day and this rare museum piece will continue to increase it's value far outweighing the purchase price, so don't hesitate any longer to get into the currency market. This a very strong note, Ready for the astute collector. It is an exceptionally handsome specimen set. This is a warm niche in the hearts of many numismatists. Always numbered among favorite piece. We believe that the valuation gap which exists between the coin and currency hobbies will drive collectible-currency values higher over time. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT 1-The grading of PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG price guide is subjective and should be used as a reference so that you have a refer only! These grading sources are subjective and grades vary, depends to Color, Toning, CAC, PQ, Sharpness and entire of coin's structure even for two identical coins with different colors and toning! The price guide offered by them, should be used to gauge the approximate (near or over) value of the coin, NOT THE MARKET VALUE, (which is the first priority and most important factor/specification.) as their rating vary and are subjective. The preserved condition of the coin is the main factor to evaluate the market value which is beyond the PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG guidelines. Please be aware, the book value is not the same as the market value. The same rule are applicable for coin sold at auction as well. However auction value is what a coin was sold for and usually it is below the market value. 1- I as a professional dealer and collector, have done extensive research and as a novice collector, I encourage you to follow the same guidelines stated above! 2- If we have stated in the title's listing the name and grade number of the coin, that means the coin is graded for sure with the certificate and serial number inside the grading company's holder. If we have not posted and included, the coin inside the holder's image, is because of the size of images only since many collectors prefer to see the details of the coin rather than just the certificate and serial number. If you are an astute collector, as soon as you see the coin's image, you would immediately and definitely realize, that coin is already graded with the certificate and serial number and is already inside the holder/slab with the case, based on the color and shape of the holder especially PCGS, NGC and ANACS! If your offer was accepted and you purchased the coin and by any remote chance it came without graded holder, then you have my word for keeping the coin for free plus your full refund regardless.
