[New Haven, CT], [c.1930s]. Original drypoint etching signed by Ray Weiss, limited to 100 copies. Drypoint etching (5.5 x 3.25 inches) on “Rives” paper (12.75 x 9.5 inches). Titled, signed, and limitation (“Ed. 100”) in artist’s pencil holograph. Fine condition, with spot of mount residue on blank verso. Born Rachel Weiss (1889-1984), in New Haven, CT in 1889, the Weiss sisters (Minna and Ray) were identical twins, and they both graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York. During the 1920's and 1930's they studied in Paris with Edouard Leon and traveled throughout Europe sketching the places which became the subjects of their many prints. They exhibited their work widely in the United States and in Paris, and their etchings are in the collections of the British Museum, Biliotheque Nationale in Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian, New York Public Library, National Museum of American Artists in Washington, D.C., Tweed Museum of Art in Duluth, Minnesota, Block Art Museum at Northwestern University in Chicago, and the Yale University.We have been selling on eBay for more than 2 decades.
