Issued in 1988 by World Wide Sports, The Sporting News Publishing Company, and Baseball Superstars Inc., were these two fine 24 card series (48 cards) featuring a select All-Star teams from the 1933 AMERICAN and NATIONAL League season. Each card features a photograph captured by the camera of Charles Martin Conlon and each features the superb writing of TSN's historian Paul MacFarlane. (You'll actually learn a great deal by reading the backs of these cards - after you enjoy the Conlon imagery!) The players selected include official American and National League all-stars of 1933 but also other selections of The Sporting News, then considered the Baseball authority. Cards are standard (2-1/2" by 3-1/2") size. All 48 cards included in these sets (two 24-card sets) are shown. An amazing 14 of these first official American Leaguer and 11 National League all-stars were subsequently elected to Baseball's highest honor: membership in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Condition: Generally Excellent to Near-Mint; however, the Jimmie Foxx card is only Good since it shows considerable wear on the front due to unusually rough mishandling and/or contact with rubber-banding. This card typically has impression marks. Also, the Tom Bridges card frequently rates only Very Good due to post-production handling.
