A presentation copy, inscribed and signed by the author to the first free endpaper and dated 1937. A lovely biography of the 1st Viscount Exmouth, a British naval officer who fought during the defining wars of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, including the American War of Independence, the French Revolutionary Wars, and the Napoleonic Wars. By the well respected naval historian Cyril Northcote Parkinson, best remembered for establishing 'Parkinson's Law' as an essay in The Economist in 1955. Illustrated with a portrait as the frontispiece, and thirteen maps and diagrams. Collated, complete. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and slight bumping to the extremities. There is some spotting to the fore edge. To the dust wrapper, there is some slight wear to the extremities, a few small tears and creases, some light marks and fading. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the odd spot.
