Senator Joseph Guffey, author of the pending Guffey Coal Bill and Representatives of the coal miners and operators departing from the White House today (June 14) after conferring with President Roosevelt on the delicate coal labor situation. As a result of the conference the threat of a strike of bituminous cola miners on Monday all but vanished. Mr. Lewis who heads the coal miners agreed to withdraw the strike order, if the operators would continue present wage and working agreements through June 30, delay in putting the Guffey Bill through Congress compelled the President's action.
