Description: This is the 6d stamp paying the air mail rate to England. The cover was sent on the first flight from Umtali to Salisbury by Rhodesia and Nyasaland Airways and then on to London by Imperial Airways. This flight was an extension of the route to include Umtali. Very few covers were carried on this flight. It was traditionally thought that there were only 15, but detailed research has shown that there were more. This is the 30th identified. Few were flown on from Salisbury to Great Britain and this is only the 2nd known franked with the SJ 6d stamp. It is thought that the addressee E Dolby was part of Imperial Airways and that the cover was sent as a test letter to monitor the service. The stamp is cancelled UMTALI 5 October 1935. On the reverse is a SALISBURY receipt mark of 5 October, authenticating the first flight. I hope the general condition is apparent from the 600 dpi scan, but please do contact me with any queries. (my reference 1681) VATI am not registered for VAT and do not need to charge it. However, Ebay sometimes adds VAT to invoices to European countries at various different rates. I have no control over this and derive no benefit if this happens, in fact I lose as Ebay charge their percentage on the tax as well as the actual price and postage. If the VAT added to an invoice makes a transaction unviable, please let me know and I will cancel the transaction. COMBINED POSTAGEI am selling other 1935 Silver Jubilee iitems.
