Description: We are offering a letter dated May 8, 1939, from Bill Cunningham, Sportswriter for the Boston Post, to Mr. E. O. Thompson, Superintendent of Schools, Keene, New Hampshire. Cunningham wrote, "I appreciate the invitation to speak at one of your Rotary Club meetings. Unfortunately, however, it's impossible for me to accept any speaking engagements in the day time except occasionally in Boston. I'm sorry and thank you for thinking of me. Very truly yours," signed Bill Cunningham. **A LITTLE BIT ABOUT BILL CUNNINGHAM** - he went to Dartmouth College where he was an All-American Team football player and served during WWI as a first lieutenant of artillery, after which he became a general reporter for the Dallas Morning News while coaching college football. In 1922, the Boston Post asked Cunningham to be a guest reporter covering the fall football game between Centre College and Texas A & M University, after which the Post offered him a full-time reporting job where he remained for 19 years. He then spent another 19 years at the Boston Herald. Bill Cunningham was a well-regarded, nationally known sportswriter during his 38 years in Boston.
