Description: The Alton Railroad was a Class 1 carrier and was one of the primary passenger carriers between Chicago and St. Louis. The Alton was purchased by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1937, and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad acquired it from the B&O in 1947. Most of its surviving trackage is now owned and operated by the Illinois Central (IC) Railroad. Items from the Alton are difficult to find, but I offer for auction a passenger train agent ticket stub dated October 27, 1945 between Girard, Illinois and Los Angeles, California. The ticket stub measures appx 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches and is printed on ticket bond paper. It is in excellent condition, even though it is now approaching 80 years old. All writing/markings are from its use, and there are no rips and tears.
