Description: - 1949 “Oshkosh All Stars” National Basketball League (NBL) Letter -- SIGNED by Manager Lon Darling, two-time NBL “coach of the year” -- Scheduling a Wisconsin GAME with the OLO SOAP Basketball TEAM - “National Basketball League” (NBL) letter genuinely SIGNED by Manager / Coach LON DARLING on the very rare letterhead of the “Oshkosh All Stars, Inc.” basketball team. Lonnie Darling who was a 2x NBL “Coach of the Year”, receiving the award in both 1942 and 1947. Letter is dated January 22nd 1949 with SUPERB basketball CONTENT, scheduling a game with the “Olo Soap Basketball Team” on January 29th 1949. Letter is addressed to Art Colligan of the “Olo Soap Basketball Team” in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and reads in full – “Dear Mr. Colligan: - Your letter of the 20th and in regard to game time January 29th -- you are to be on the floor by 6:45 and game time is 7:00 P.M. sharp. Looking forward to seeing you and wish you would send mats or pictures of your club at once so we could release some publicity on them. Very truly yours, Lon Darling (SIGNED) Lon Darling – Mgr. Oshkosh All Stars Inc.” There are a number on numerical computations, in pencil, on almost the entire backside of the letter. These are likely expenses incurred by the team, as the words “gym” and “citizen” are written after a few of these numbers. The Beaver Dam Daily Citizen was a local community newspaper in Wisconsin at that time. Alonzo Lewis “Lon” Darling (1902 – 1951) was the Manager / Coach of the barnstorming “Oshkosh All Stars” professional basketball team which he founded in 1929. He was also one of the organizers in 1937 of the “National Basketball League”, which operated from 1937 – 1949. Darling was named the NBL “Coach of the Year” in both 1942 and 1947. The Oshkosh All Stars won the 1941 and 1942 NBL championships and were the champions of the 1942 “World Professional Basketball Tournament” under his leadership. The All Stars, however, disbanded after the 1948 – 49 NBL season. Oshkosh All Stars PLAYER Leroy Edwards was given the MVP award by the NBL during three consecutive seasons (1937 – 39). CONDITION: letter is guaranteed authentic and original (NOT a copy). It measures about 8 ½ x 11 inches in size and is in EXCELLENT overall condition, with a bold signature by Darling.
