Description: This 1950 George Ratterman Bowman Card #121 NFL New York Yankees NCAA Notre Dame Irish is the exact item you will receive and has been certified Authentic by REM Fine Collectibles. George William Ratterman (November 12, 1926 - November 3, 2007) (QB) set a professional rookie record with 22 touchdown passes in his first season with the Buffalo Bills of the All-America Football Conference in 1947. The Boston Yanks selected Ratterman in the 16th round of the 1948 NFL Draft out of the University of Notre Dame. George finally had his chance to run the offense when he joined the Bills, after playing backup at ND to Johnny Lujack and Frank Dancewicz. However, in three of his first four seasons in the pros, he led the league in interceptions. But, he also led the league in completion percentage (57.9) in 1949 and in touchdown passes (22) in 1950. He played ten seasons for Buffalo 91947-1949) of the AAFC and the New York Yankees (1950-1951) and Cleveland Browns (1952-1956) of the NFL. He played in four consecutive NFL League Championship games from 1952-1955, capturing the title in 1954 and 1955. When George found his permanent and final home in Cleveland, he again played backup to Hall of Fame gunslinger Otto Graham, taking over the reigns in 1956. Ratterman became the first quarterback in NFL history to wear a radio receiver in his helmet that season. This would prove to be his final year as a leg injury sidelined him permanently midway through the year. George Ratterman amassed 10,473 passing yards and 91 touchdowns on 737 completions in 1,396 attempts. In 92 career games, he scored 84 total points on 14 rushing touchdowns and rushed for 49 yards on 106 attempts. Ratterman went on to have a successful career in the broadcasting booth covering NFL and AFL matchups.
