Smith was a member of General Matthew Ridgway's Honor Guard when he suddenly craved some candy. He snitched five pieces from the General's private candy stock. When the theft was discovered, it cost Smith a stripe, his Good Conduct Ribbon, and his position on the Honor Guard. Smith returned here today aboard the USNS General Simon D.
