Description: Handsome fold-out 1954 D-X road map of Iowa, printed more than 66 years ago. This map opens to 18" x 26½" and has great detail on old highway alignments, including U.S. Routes 6 and 30, with cartography by H.M. Gousha. On the reverse side there are inset plans of Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Sioux City, Waterloo, Dubuque, Fort Dodge, Iowa City, and the Spirit Lake Region, as well as a transcontinental highway map of the United States. This map was published by the Mid-Continent Petroleum Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1954 to promote its D-X brand. It is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 8-BB. Population data is from the 1950 census. Condition: The map is in very good, lightly used condition, with some toning near the top fold on the back cover and no rips, tears, or writing.
