Description: 1960's Franz Kriwanek Hand-Made Stoneware Vase Stamped & Signed. This is an exquisite piece by Czechoslovakian artist Franz Kriwanek. Excerpt from included pamphlet reads "Kriwanek...studied in Vienna and Rome and had exhibited in Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Italy. Living near Stockholm [he] studied under such masters as Wilhelm Koge, and Stig Lindberg. While in Sweden, he had seven one-man exhibits....Kriwanek believes in the use of local materials. He also developed a series of glazes for this clay which have cotton gin ashes as their main component....These ash glazes follow the same great traditions of Chinese ash glazes in their matte textures, subtle colors and applications....Every piece...is individually hand-made. No two are alike. Both Kriwanek's craftsmanship and designs have received high critical acclaim." This one-of-a-kind piece comes from the very high-end West Texas Estate of Dr. Gene Hemmle, who obtained this piece while Kriwanek worked as a professor at Texas Tech University. Dr. Gene Hemmle worked as chairman of Texas Tech's music department from 1949 to 1973 and collected many pieces of original art such as this, from his colleagues. This particular piece measures approx 4" tall and 4" wide. It is stamped and signed by Kriwanek on the bottom surface. This item will ship via USPS Priority Mail and Ships Worldwide.
