The Chiefs replaced the Montreal Royals in the International League in 1961 after having their previous team move to Miami in 1955. The Chiefs finished last in the league and the Red Wings were fourth in 1961. Syracuse's parent team was the Minnesota Twins and for Rochester it was the Baltimore Orioles . A number of future and past Major Leaguers were on the two rosters including Clint Courtney, John "Boog" Powell, Luke Easter, John Kucks, Joe Altobelli, Rip Repulski, and Mike Cuellar to name a few.
