Description: The program is in good condition with slight rippling along the top and light wear. Numerous pictures were taken to assist with the condition and content of the program. The 2nd Annual World 600 was held at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28, 1961. Over 46,000 fans would attend this race. Richard Petty started on the pole with a speed of 131.611 mph. A field of 55 cars would take the green. The 1960 Rookie of the Year, David Pearson, was having a tough season and looked to be out of racing the Grand National circuit due to finances. He had recently parked his car for the season. Pearson received a call from car owner Ray Fox early in the week and got a ride for NASCAR's longest race. Pearson had a flat tire with two laps to go but would cross the finish line in a shower of sparks to claim his career first Grand National victory. Following Pearson, two laps down, was Fireball Roberts. The remaining top five consisted of Rex White, Ned Jarrett, and Jim Paschal. There are a few notes from the race. Maryland driver Reds Kagle would lose a leg when his car was impaled by the guardrail. Tim Flock would make his last start in NASCAR competition at this race. The two-time Grand National Champion would finish 37th. Ralph Earnhardt drove the Cotton Owens #6 and would finish 11th in this race. Please review the other racing items I have listed.
