Coin info from PCGS website: The Bashlow Restrike 1861 Confederate Half Dollar was created in 1962 using newly made dies that imitated the white metal Scott Restrike Tokens of 1879. One side shows an accurate copy of the die used in 1861 to strike the four Original Confederate Half Dollars at the New Orleans Mint. The Original Confederate Half Dollar was paired with the obverse of an 1861 United States Half Dollar. The 1879 Scott Restrike used the original Confederate designed die with an advertising design and struck only in white metal. The Bashlow restrike, named for Robert Bashlow (who is credited with creating this restrike along with the 2nd restrikes of the Confederate Cents), did not use the original Confederate Half Dollar die to make these restrikes, but one created to appear the same as the one used for the Original Confederate Half Dollar. For a reverse die, Bashlow used a design similar to that of the 1879 white metal restrike. While it is believed that the Bashlow Restrikes of the Confederate Cents were made in 1961 and the Bashlow Half Dollar Restrikes were struck in 1962, the statement on the back of the Half Dollar Restrike states that both were made in 1962 and that the mintage for both the Cent and the Half Dollar were the same for the three most commonly seen metals in which they were made. The mintages are given as follows: 5,000 in silver, 20,000 in bronze and 5,000 in goldine (a brasslike metal).
