In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper designed by Len Deighton. This satirical novel was written by Canadian author Mordecai Richler. The work tells the story of a Canadian Inuit called Atuk who's personality changes when he moves to the big city of Toronto, turning him greedy. The novel aims to depict the fetishization of native cultures, with Richler's satirical characters first seeing Atuk as a noble savage and then, when he starts to become influenced by the big city, as a symbol of Canadian nationalism. The work was intended to be made into a film, but never made it to the screen, with many believing that the work was cursed as six different actors were found dead shortly after being offered the lead role in the film. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with slight bumping to the extremities and a slight lean. The wrap is sound with handling marks, offsetting to the verso, sunning to the spine, a small tidemark to the front, creasing and closed tears and chips repaired with archival tape to the verso. Internally firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Spotting to the fore edge.
