Description: 1963 Washington Quarter. Type B Reverse. No set complete without one. This Type B Reverse exists on some Philadelphia mint Washington Quarters on all years from 1956 to 1964. For reasons unknown and unpublished, certainly by the mint.The Philadelphia Mint chose to use the reverse die of the proof quarter to strike a small minority of their mint production for the 1956-1964 years. Considering that the difference between a Type A and Type B reverse is dramatic and distinct, that there has been so much collector interest in general over the last 50 years, that the Washington Quarter set is so popular, that die varieties in general have been aburgeoning part of numismatics in general it is surprising that this variety suffers in obscurity remaining relatively unknown, unpublished, and is not included in any of the various coinsalbums while it can be purchased at a very reasonable price when located.
