Bringing The Outdoors Inside - The University of Pennsylvania track at Franklin field in Philadelphia has been turned into an indoor facility for practice with the installation of an air supported dome. The dome, anchored to 122 concrete pillars, protects Penn athletes against cold, snow and rain, and permits practice in any weather. The unit is 200 feet long, 111 feet wide and 38 feet high and is covered by 3,000 yards of vinyl coated nylon fabric. The area can be lighted at night. While no meets are planned in the enclosed area, it provides unlimited practice opportunities and has lengthened the possible training period for Penn's track team. Franklin Field - Sports - Track.
