Description: From the defunct website, thelocker-room.com Just missing a 1,000 yard season in 1971, Larry Brown registered an award laden 1972 as he was named NFC Player of the Year and the NFL's Most Valuable Player.Used as the workhorse by head coach George Allen, Brown led the NFC in rushing with 1,216 yards despite missing two games with an injury. Washington earned a trip to it's first Championship game since 1942, eventually losing to the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VII.A bit on the smallish side to withstand close to the 300 carries and 30 receptions per season he was getting, Brown began to wear down as time passed and his production dropped off significantly. 1973 would be Brown's last solid season when he led the NFL in TDs with 14. He ran for 860 yards that year, registering only a 3.2 yard average. Suddenly Allen's game plans, which were centered around getting the ball into Brown's hands, were becoming well scrutinized.Father time had finally crept up on Allen's "Over-the-Hill-Gang" and Brown was basically transformed into a tackling dummy the next three seasons. No longer the close nit group which rallied behind the inspiring Allen, the Redskins as a team, and in particular the offensive line, became depleted due to attrition. Most of the team's top draft choices were traded by Allen for veterans. From 1971 through Larry Brown's last season of 1976, the Redskins possessed only 4 picks in the first five rounds of those drafts. That's 4 out of 30 top five draft picks. Luckily one of those picks was Brown's eventual successor, Mike Thomas, a 5th rounder in 1975.After rushing for 5,037 yards his first 5 years in the NFL, Brown ran for only 838 his final three seasons and retired after 1976 as Washington's all time rushing leader with 5,875 yards. **New Combined Shipping Rates** I try to keep the postage low but USPS & eBay keep raising our rates 2 - 3 cards .95ยข4 or more cards $1.35 no matter how many you purchase.
