Description: This was the very first game which Dave McClain coached at the University of Wisconsin. He won this game 7-6 over Richmond and it would prove to the first of four straight victories—the first time a Wisconsin football coach would accomplish this feat. The game was played on September 16, 1978 at Camp Randall Memorial Stadium. Aside from some very light wear, this program is in newsstand or game day condition. Prominent signatures on the cover include Dave McClain (d. 1986) and College as well as NFL Hall of Fame member Elroy Crazylegs Hirsch (d. 2004). Assistant coaches who signed the program cover include Doug Graber, Arnold Jeter, Bob Palcic and Future Wisconsin Head Coach Jim Hilles. Following the success of the 1962 season which culminated in the 1963 Rose Bowl, it is safe to say that with the exception of John Jardine in 1974, Dave McClain was instrumental in turning around the Wisconsin Badger football program. He led the Wisconsin Badgers to their first Bowl Game victory in program history. This is an historically significant program as well as being in absolutely fantastic shape.
