1980 TOPPS HEADER CARD from the 42-card Rack Pack **NEAR-MINT** *VINTAGE / RARE*

Description: 1980 TOPPS Header card from a 42-card Rack Pack. This is the card that came in the top pocket of the rack pack, and has a pre-scored 4-star cross mark intended for pushing onto a hook in a retail store. The front reads: "TOPPS SPORTS PICTURE CARDS" "42 CARDS ONLY 69 cents". The back has an offer for "PERSONALIZED TRADING CARDS" The offer, for $6.95, expired 12/31/80. "BASEBALL . BASKETBALL . FOOTBALL . HOCKEY" are printed on back, so it's a safe bet Topps used this as a generic header. This particular header came with a baseball rack pack. You will receive the card pictured, please examine photos for condition. This card is not professionally graded, but in my opinion as a long time collector it is in NEAR-MINT condition. *see below CENTERING is as follows...front: 60/40, and 60/40 top/bottom. The back is centered 70/30 left/right; and 60/40 top/bottom. Centering based on horizontal front and horizontal back orientation. CORNERS: all 4 corners are excellentNO creases; No smudges; NO stains.The front retains decent gloss and good color. The back retains decent gloss and good color. * Technically, this card has the factory stamped 4-star cross mark (cross shape) impression. On a regular trading card, any kind of pin hole or hole punch would automatically lower the grade. However, this card was produced in a manner for the pack to hang on a hook, and this particular card was never placed on a hook. Therefore, in my opinion, the card is a solid NEAR-MINT. During production, it appears that the cross mark would have been pushed through from the front, since on the back the cross mark can be felt above the card surface. The cross mark is undisturbed on this particular card (see photos). It is likely that a large percentage of these header cards were thrown out. How many might still exist? In 1980, this collector purchased a limited amount of rack packs of Topps Baseball cards at retail stores. This header card has remained in storage ever since (double boxed, and indoor climate controlled). It's time for a new owner. What do you collect? Wrappers? Display boxes?
