Description: Continuing his Country People Series, artist Tom Clark has given us Mattie, a 1982 sculpture. A dedicated quilter, Mattie uses her seamstress skills for this intricate bed cover. Clark tells Mattie's story, "I have had 2 aunts named 'Mattie' and this statue is named in honor of them. The quilter is finishing a very patriotic pattern with a Latin cross as its inspiration. Because the statue is hand painted, it is easy to detect that no two bonnets are alike. The little cameo at Mattie's collar was contributed by a lady working in the studio." Our Mattie is #60 from mold #184. Cairn Studio issued Mattie on January 20, 1982. While Mattie retired on October 31, 1987 to rest her weary fingers, she still inspires many quilters to do their best quilting work, making each project a work of art. In pristine condition. Mattie measures 8" tall by 5.5" across. Honor past quilters and recognize the efforts of today's quilters who are doing hand work on their own quilts, using their labor to create unique works of art.
