These coins were minted by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint. These coins are legal tender of the United States. Coins in this set include: * 1987-W American Gold Eagle Proof (1 oz) $50 * 1987-P American Gold Eagle Proof (1/2 oz) $25 Coin Design The American Eagle Gold Coin's obverse design features a rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full length figure of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.
