Heiman and two other young men said the prayer at the end of the service in front of Macalester's student union, because they wanted to display their Judaism in the face of the anti-semitic vandalism that occurred in the Thanksgiving weekend. --- Joe Heiman wore phylacteries - small black leather boxes containing scriptures from the Torah - on his left arm and on his head as he prayed at a service on the Macalester campus.
