Sara Rosensweig (Jane Alexander), an American abroad and a leading London banker is celebrating her 54th birthday with her two sisters, Gorgeous (Madeline Kahn), group leader of the Newton, Mass. Beth-El Sisterhood on their tour of the Crown jewels and Harrods, and Pfeni (Frances McDormand), an international travel writer. The party includes Sara's daughter Tess (Julie Dretzin) and her boyfriend (Patrick Fitzgerald); Pfeni's sometime lover Geoffrey (John Vickery); faux furrier Merv Kant (Robert Klein); and British businessman nick Pyn (Rex Robbins).
