Fourteen-year veteran lifeguard Mel Solberg (left) was involved in a harrowing rescue of two sisters from 56-degree, 10 to 12-foot surf at the Manhattan Beach Pier in February 1996. The younger sister was submerged unconscious and non-breathing when he found her. She was resuscitated in the water before Baywatch Redondo picked them up 20 minutes later. Greg Bonann (below right), co-creator and executive producer of "Baywatch," shoots a scene from the show as cast member Mike Newman looks on.
