Seattle Children's Theatre opens its 23rd season with Still Life with Iris, an enchanting world premiere by Steven Dietz, with magic by Northwest magician Steffan Soule and writer-illustrator Cooper Edens. Directed by SCT Artistic Director Linda Hartzell, Still Life with Iris opens at the Charlotte Martin Theatre on Friday, September 19 and runs through November 2, 1997. Within Still Life with Iris, we are introduced to the world of Nocturno, an incredible place inhabited by leaf counters, star hangers, lightning bottlers and flower painters, all of whom prepare the world for each new day. While Dietz was inspired by the whimsical imagery of Cooper Edens, he has created for Iris a world that is paradoxically delightful and deeply disturbing. Within Nocturno, one's past is carried around within a garment, a PastCoat. When Iris' coat is stolen from her, she struggles to know "the story of who I am" and undertakes a magical journey to recover her memories. Still Life with Iris is recommended for ages 6 and older.
