Full pictorial flexible cloth binding, with silk ties. From the Limitation page: “The Hon. Roden Noel lived from 1834 to 1894. He was the son of the first Earl of Gainsborough and, at various times, travelled alone in the East and climbed in the Alps, - as well as living and writing in England. For such of his poems as The Waternymph and the Boy, however moods, influences, and atmospheres can best be traced to childhood memories – of Lord Gainsborough’s seat at Exton Park, Rutland, and his grandfather, Lord Roden’s Irish place at Tollymore. John Addington Symonds wrote of Noel ‘his real strength consists in the combination of full sensuous feeling for the material world with an ever-present sense of the spirit informing it and bringing all its into vital harmony. This enable him to paint pictures of voluptuous beauty and concrete form….’ This edition was completed in early 1997, by Nicolas McDowell at the Old Style Press, Catchmays Court, Llandogo, Monmouthshire, NP5 4TN, UK. J. Martin Pitts’s two-colour linocuts were printed direct from the blocks. The typeface is Blado and the paper is Hahnemuhle Ingres. The binding was designed by The Old Style Press.
