Description: Union-Castle Line - A beautiful 32-page prestige brochure created for a special revival "Centenary Voyage" in December 1999 to February 2000. The centenary celebrated the joining of Union and Castle lines into one company. P&O's VICTORIA was leased for the sixty-six day cruise that departed Southampton on December 11, 1999 and returned on February 15, 2000. The ship's stack was repainted in Union-Castle's old livery of red and black, although sadly the lavender hull was not reprised. The ship followed the old East Africa route through the Suez Canal with additional stops at Reunion Island, Mauritius, Madagascar, and Comoros Islands. The Millennium was celebrated in Cape Town. "With many former passengers, crew and officers of the Union-Castle Line among the passenger list," noted the introduction, " this first voyage by a Union-Castle ship for over 20 years promises to recreate many fond memories of a bygone era." There are many ship photos including sample cabin views plus color-coded plans of seven decks. Sprinkled throughout the pages are images of historic Union-Castle mail ships. The actual Union-Castle was long gone by 2000, but someone must have acquired the rights to the name. The brochure promotes a Union-Castle Line web site, but it is no longer active. Excellent condition.
