Description: I am offering for sale an early 19th Century Gilt Bronze French Officer's Epee Sword with natural horn grips and a fullered blade with gilded etchings of military motifs. The pommel is in the form of a mustachioed soldier wearing a helmet. The clam shell guard depicts a Roman Emperor dispensing justice from his throne. The handle is made of bronze and covered in gold (gilt). This model is a variation of that shown in the authoritative book titled Epees Portees en France des Origines a Nos Jours by Jean L’hoste as figure 843 on page 443. It is in excellent condition with minor, age appropriate wear to the blade. The back grip has a small hole in the center. It measures 36 1/2" long from the top of the pommel to the tip of the blade. There is no scabbard.
