Description: This Belle Epoque / Art Nouveau sculpture clock features a sentinel archer ‘on the look out’ (as the piece is titled). It is made of spelter and mounted on a rouge marble base that also houses the clock. The clock’s numeral face design is indicative that the movement may be by Samuel Marti, although it does not bare the Marti hallmark. The sculpture has a plaque that gives the title of the motive “A L’Affut” (On the Lookout) and has L & F Moreau inscribed. The sculpture is signed L & F Moreau on the back at the base.About the sculptors: L. and F. Moreau were two brothers who were likely best known for creating highly ornate clocks and garniture sets in both bronze and spelter. The "L" stands for Louis Auguste (1855-1919), known for bronzes and metal sculptures. The "F" stands for Hippolyte Francois (1832-1927), a painter and sculptor. DIMENSIONS (approx.): Clock with Sculpture H: 17.75” x W: 10” x D: 5.5” / Sculpture w/o clock base H: 9.75”CONDITION: Sculpture and clock housing are in excellent condition. The clock dial face is in excellent condition. The Clock is not working. The movement of the clock appears in tact, however it is not functioning currently (tested by observing dial motion while manually moving the pendulum mechanism). The bell hammer mechanisms is also functional. Comes with original winding key. Winding mechanism appears to have good tension. However, the pendulum and bell dome of the clock are missing, but could be replaced if desired. That being stated I do not claim that the clock will work or run accurately. This can only be determined by an antique clock repair specialist.Clock MFG: Unknown. Possibly Marti. CIRCA: Belle Epoque / Art Nouveau late 19th century
